You go to college and work hard and get a degree, and all the while the world around you is saying that this is what it takes to get a good job, so then you leave college with that expectation: a good job. Unfortunately, I am realizing more and more how much of a lie that was. Because most all of the jobs that would require my degree also require a few years of experience, and all the jobs that don’t require a degree seem to go to college students. (I was recently told I wasn’t given a position because the part-time schedule was beneficial for a student who applied, apparently meaning that my open availability was a problem for them.)
I’m left feeling like I am caught in this weird limbo of having a degree but no experience. The big question on my mind is how does one get experience in a field where to get into said field you need experience? Maybe that is part of the game, you have to be smart enough to find your way in, and maybe I am just not smart enough to do that. Maybe I am smart enough I just haven’t figured it out yet. Maybe there is no game at all and the reality is that jobs are just really that difficult to find.
